Media Award Call for NominationsThe Decade of Behavior Media Award recognizes individuals in the media who consistently incorporate behavioral and social science research advances in their reporting. Strong preference will be given to journalists who regularly report on topics consistent with one of the five Decade of Behavior themes (safety, education, health, democracy and prosperity) and whose reporting reflects a balanced and non-partisan view. Self-nominations and nominations from endorsing organizations will be accepted for both newsprint and broadcast journalism. Up to five outstanding nominees may be selected to receive the award. Awardees will be invited by the nominating organization to Washington, DC to present their research at a Congressional Briefing on Capitol Hill. The nominating organizations will be responsible for organizing and planning the briefing(s) for the award recipients. The Decade of Behavior awards each organization with $2,000 to assist with planning the briefing and covering the travel costs of the award winner. Award Eligibility:
Award Recognition: Each award winner will be recognized at a dinner attended by the Decade of Behavior National Advisory Committee, endorsing organization representatives, and Decade of Behavior staff. An announcement of the award winners will be publicized broadly, with a formal announcement delivered to professional journalism associations, each winner’s employer (if applicable) and Decade of Behavior Endorsing Organizations. Deadline: May 13, 2005 Applications and nominations should be sent electronically to the Decade of Behavior with a subject line of Media Award. Application materials must contain the nomination form and a minimum of two supporting articles that clearly demonstrate the individual’s promotion of the behavioral and social sciences. Applications will be reviewed/selected by the Decade of Behavior National Advisory Committee. Notification of award will be made in June 2005, with the honorary dinner taking place in September.
